Once upon a time, there was National Insurance. The idea was that it would pay partly for your NHS care, but would also store up a pot for your infirmity. I wonder what happened to that.

Oh, wait. I’m still paying it.

This sounds like more tax to me.

+1 That is exactly what National Insurance is for, and I'll be damned if I'm paying it twice.

There used to be two things certain in life. Taxes and Death
Now if Labour get their way there'll be three. Taxes, Death and Death Taxes.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

NI is to provide for basic medical care (at point of use) and a basic state pension
that is all NI was established for, nothing more nothing less ...

care beyond that was always the responsibility of the family (olden days)
it seems we have lost are way

to pay for 'long' term care there is a great need for away to finance this
and i don't have the answer …

This was so much less of a problem years ago people used to look after the family themselves.

..and people died quite quickly because life expectancy was shorter.

It is much easier when families only had one person working. Though who wants to live for ever when you are senile and demented?

The article mentioned that people need help washing and dressing. Well when it comes to that point I'll have already bumped myself off, perhaps others should be more considerate.

:P

There's a threshold. £325,000 at the moment. This new death tax Labour want will be ON TOP of that, and it will kick in from pound one! There'll be no tax free allowance at all.

Grave robbers!

Actually maybe a review of euthanasia laws might be in order. If people were given the option of death or death taxes because of illness when that moment comes I am sure many would prefer the painless option.
