They must have a shortage of female gamers. Though I would imagine that for female gamers this could actually be a great way of funding university and fun.

Yes but it costs $6 per ten minutes, or $36 per hour. So if they paid the women just to chat and play at a rate of $18 an hour they would still be making a good profit margin. For the girls it would be a lot more than minimum wage and a lot safer than working in a bar or somewhere else.
