claim (PDF) that the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad user their patents on multi-touch. They are asking the ITC for a ban on the import of all Apple touch based products into the United States of America.
Elan first put the claim in in April 2009, this is an extension (presumably now covering the iPad) and they put Apple on notice in 2007, that they were infringing on their patents. Elan calls its patent fundamental to the “detection of multi-fingers that allows for any subsequent multi-finger application to be implemented.”
Apple denied the infringement last October.
Elan Microelectronics successfully sued Synaptics (the makers of trackpads in many brands of laptop) for the same thing last year.
