I'll believe it when I see it, and how would it work alongside council decisions? Especially since they like ignoring community groups and independent evidence so much...

Well with this they could scrap all the councils because they will be doing much of what the councils do.

Quote:
"We're going to give communities the chance to take control," he said.
"Setting up new schools, taking over the running of parks, libraries and post offices, holding beat meetings so they can ask police officers what they're doing. Planning the look, size, shape and feel of new housing developments.

And where will the funding come from?

That's easy. They could tax each household. Every house could be assessed for value, and the homeowner charged accordingly in a series of "bands".

Oh, wait...

What a bloody waste. How about instead the money could go into funding Youth Services in local authorities and the role of the Neighbourhood Beat Manager could be expanded so that they become responsible for effectively organising co-ordination and delivery of public services in their area.

I'd like to say "[LIFTED]" and "Off" in short order. How the heck would this work? :

Quote:
The new "army" will consist of 5,000 full-time, professional community organisers who will be trained to:
:: Identify local community leaders;

So a paid person is to identify....without any democratic process....community leaders who will have a say on how the community pulls together. This is open to completely rampant, unwarranted abuse. It's bad enough in certain major city councils that people with unpleasant agendas can get into power. Imagine how bad it will be without them having to be voted in? :|

I have thought that Youth services should be funded by the police from their crime prevention budget. It is a lot cheaper to provide youth clubs for kids rather than pick up the pieces when they get bored and get destructive. Plus the police can check who runs the services.
