I hate PDFs at the best of times

I like PDFs, they are nice and universal, formatting doesn't change from reader to reader either (than I've experienced), and they are nice and quick to open.

I dunno, with not having to use them too often, I just find them a faff... I think part of my problem is bloated Adobe Reader though

I don't open things unless I trust the source anyway.

You still have to be aware that some sites can be hacked and malicious files placed on the site.

This exploit is a bit like saying "download this nice program - it does nice things" when actually it does nasty things.

If we want to download useful tools, we have to understand the concept of "trust". Easier said than done when a Google search for any given tool leads to over 9000 options from sources you've never used before.

I guess the fundamental issue here is; how many people know that PDF files can now contain more than just document files? How many people actually want that? Why did ISO decide it was needed?

I loved the idea of PDF, but it has become too big and bloated. I just want a format which opens quickly on any platform and reliably shows me a document in the way it was intended. I do not want any active content in a document.

PDF viewers are the new IE. They need to have active content blocked by default, or ISO need to rethink the need for such potentially nuclear health hazards.
