Jesus Christ, this will only ever end badly for the workers. "Negotiate" to see if you can work in some capacity? Here's how that will go: "We think you can lift ten tons of steel. Yes, even with this back injury of yours." "No no, I really don't think I can do that. I think I'll just stay home." "Do it or we'll put it down as an unauthorised absence, you won't get paid and you'll be disciplined when you return to work". In my experience employers are particularly unforgiving of chronic illnesses. My line manager once said to me that "Asthma isn't a real illness though". When you're dealing with idiots like that, what hope is there? |

Indeed. I think a lot of this will come down to how specific the 'Fit Note' is in terms of what a person can do. If it's not specific then, as you say, it will be widely open to abuse and the only people likely to benefit will be Employers and lawyers. Plus employees will presumably have to pay for their Fit Note as well. Joy! |

Yes but when the right wing complain about the benefit culture they ignore the run the workers into an early grave attitude. Heath and safety at work has a purpose. All doctors are expected to do is state that an employee is unable to do certain things. It does depend on the condition. He has the ebola virus that will not stop him from working but only for 24 hours after that he will die a painful death, and infect all the other staff he comes into contact with. Failure to turn up will result in loss of wages and benefits. ![]() |
