Where does this belief that marriage is inherently fundamental come from? I suspect it's becoming an increasingly outdated notion for many - is it a bit of a religious leftover? ![]() I know people who are on the face of it no better off than each other for being married/'just' a couple. Equally, I know loads of people who don't need/want marriage in the slightest and are very happy, not to mention parents (including my own) who would be better off with a divorce ![]() |

I think that the idea of transferable personal allowances is good, but they are using it for the wrong reasons. I even would consider the idea to kids allowances instead of child benefit. Though the figures would need to sorted out. The problem with the Tories is you have to question their motives. It is nothing about family values it is about giving tory families another tax break. |

I guess the tax break would be 150 each totalling 300 for a couple. Even then it is a small amount and a tiny proportion of what people pay to get married in many cases. It also adds another layer to the tax system that has to verified, and will undoubtedly be abused, leading to more costs just for the administration. |
