Is Overboard the one with Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn? I used to watch that movie when I was younger (I think my mum really liked it).

Yes it is. I do not think it was that much of a flop. Not a big hit but it must have made its money back, with all the TV showings.

So, by 'flop' they basically mean films that didn't make a financial gain, right? Y'know, there's lots of other considerations as to what makes a film a flop. Hollywood really does only see the $ signs, doesn't it?

Many films may make money eventually. Just not in the first year. Some turkeys may never get their money back but some can recover costs within a decade without a problem. Even some of the big budget films of the past can take decades to break even.

Actually no, although that also applies very well. The one I'm thinking of is "The height of insanity is continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result" although it seems there is some dispute as to whether Einstein actually originated the quote.

If a film was previously a flop, what means it's going to be profitable second time round?

I enjoyed that film as well. I never read the books and was told that the film had loads of differences with the books. Overall it was an enjoyable film.

When Raimi isn't making Evil Dead or occasional thriller films, his output is 'meh' at best. Red Sonja with Fox? Does the studio know something we don't? I mean if they got someone who could act they could have another bite at the sword and sorcery cherry that's did so well in recent times... Jennifer Lopez... has she ever starred in a good film? Though depending on the release date the initial weekend could see it make it's money back quickly overall. Don't think I've seen any of Pierre Morel's work

Yes. The Cell is actually v.good. Is the wink sarcastic? Going by imdb he was the cinematographer on Unleashed - which was very well made - and is easily one of Jet Li's best ever movies (not to mention the awesome soundtrack). He also played a lead technical role on Joan of Arc (which I really enjoy) and Taxi 2, which, along with directing both The Transporter & District 13* makes for quite a pedigree in my book. But then I could simply be defending the fact I own them all. *which only got worse in their subsequent sequels, as French-made action goes, they easily out-trump anything Hollywood have output of late.
