Yes the regulation was poor but it could have been worse. As for the Tories crowing, they would have been even more lax re regulation though the regulation set up would have been better than the separate entities that Brown set up. Banking regulation should have stayed with the Bank of England where it could oversee the overall financial health of the banks. The Financial Services Agency should have only been involved with the regulation of the products being sold to the consumer.
