This is just straw clutching.
So, is he saying that the Catholic Church attracts homosexual to the priesthood? Is the Pope a gay? I think we should know.

maybe the vatican is reliant on the fact that you have to have 'faith' to believe the link exists …

Isn't it a pity the faithful don't get to vote for their priests?
I wonder how the church is going to ever come out of this with dignity intact. Hopefully it won't. The sooner organised religion is banished to the realms of fantasy the better, in my opinion.

+3 I know a gay priest and he is not interested in boys. Far from it.

It’s a common fallacy that homosexuality = paedophilia. Far from it, but clearly on that the Catholic church is happy to use as an excuse.

I thought the American apologist was worse. He claimed it wasn't child abuse or pedophilia, it was plain homosexuality, because the boys were post-pubescent! (On Larry King last week)

I don't think that the police or the courts will see it that way. In the US if they are below a certain age they cannot give consent for any sexual act and it becomes statutory rape. And cardinal who aided and abetted there transfer to another country could be guilty of aiding and abetting child rape.

He was pushed by Sinéad O'Connor to say exactly when a boy in America would be considered post-pubescent, he said 12 or 13! The problem is, probably half of the audience wouldn't have understood what post-pubescent meant and would have believed him, had he not been pushed to actually define it! He was a shill, trying to do damage limitation.

It can be later than that. Boys do develop later than girls. Even so many US jurisdictions state that consent cannot be given before fourteen, and then only to another minor. If that person is above 16 then the full rape charge is thrown at the older person. In this case as a spokesman for the church he is not to blame but it does show how out of touch the church has become.
