http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healt ... -rise.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healt ... sthma.html Both cover the same topic. As parents we clean the home too much and do not expose them to allergens like cat and dog fur. Plus leaving the buggers out in the spring will get them used to pollen. For the same reason we should ban anti bacterial products for the home. |

yes this isn't exactly news its been known for many years that children brought up in the countryside have far fewer allergies. The logic being they actually come into contact with nature far more and build up immunities to it. |

I would imagine that many with nut allergies were not exposed to peanut oil as kids. |

Hardly surprising - the immune system need something to work off, otherwise it starts attacking the first ting it comes across - the body it’s supposed to be protecting. |

My brothers immune system is really, really weak, but then again he is terribly clean. I rarely get ill, but then having eaten my fair share of grass, leaves, bark and God knows what else as a youngster and on camps, I find that hardly surprising... |

I am asthmatic, and I used to play in the mud, ride my bike on wasteland and get properly grubby as a kid. I suppose I could be far worse had I been kept hermetically sealed in a plastic box. |

I am only ever affected by viruses. I have a very strong immune system, so much so that the family joke that I should never cook anything for anyone. They simply would not survive. |

I first got hayfever when I was about 16 or 17. Until then, I had played outside a lot. It coincided with the increased use of anti-bacterial cleaning materials in the home. My girlfriend won't let me use any harsh chemical cleaners in the house. We use soap and water to wash down dusty surfaces etc. In the kitchen and bathroom, we use an ecologically approved cleaner, which isn't harsh and doesn't have any anti-bacterial etc. components. She is fastidious about cleanliness, which means the house is always clean - a hard thing to do with a long haired dog. We vacuum the house from top to bottom 3 times a week (that reminds me, my turn today). |

I do the majority of cleaning with a wet soapy sponge and occasionally with bleach though I never use antibacterial products. |
