The RIAA and MPAA want to install spyware on all computers, to scan for copyright infringing material.

They want to put filters on ALL internet connections, to scan for copyright infringing material and block access.

They want to put border controls in place, to search computers and media players for infringing content.

They want the authorities (police, FBI etc.) to drop all other duties on the opening weekend for new films, to track down and stop anybody who is copying or distributing the film.

They want the USA to bully countries which have more tech friendly policies.

I mean, WTF!

In the morning!

I thought Germany had problems with this? Anyway this would mean that only technically illiterate will get caught up. Everyone else will routinely clean their machines of such crap. Also will the European courts allow this?

And who will pay for this? Certainly not the media businesses. They will male the ISP's pay and the media industry will get a free ride.

The US already does this, though not for copyright infringement yet. That is why some UK businesses go with freshly formatted machines and use A VPN to get access to their data. Plus you may not get your computer back until after you have left the country. So have to pay for it to be shipped back to you. This will also destroy the tourist trade. The controls on US borders has meant that tourism to the US still has not recovered to the point it was in 2000.

Criminals will love this. It will be a free pass to commit crimes as long as it does not involve copyright infringement. The public will be against it for just that reason. If the media industry want the police to give them priority then pay 42% of all costs of police then it might be considered. Why 42% well 3 out of 7 days because films open on Thursdays and there are openings every week. That will exceed the media industries revenues.

And we could deport their ambassador to show that we think that their policy is unacceptable.

Exactly. So Labour and the Tories will accept it and sign it into law, like they did the Digital Economy Bill.

The justice minister tried to bring it in, but it was thrown out of court as breaking the Constitution.

How do they know it infringes copyright? what if you own it and it's a backup or in a different format?

It shows how inept the German ministers are. I expect this of our corrupt lot. I thought the Germans were much better.
