http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ar ... ?id=243439What a load of b0llocks, Joe or Jane Average DS Owner wouldn't have a clue about R4 cards - they might look into them though since Nintendo keep banging on about them

I prefer my cyclo to the R4 but I only have the games I own backed up on it. Its so much easier to carry that with 20+ games on it than 20+ cartridges. Plus the ability to put homebrew and other media on the DS.

Don’t be so sure. My neighbour, who is retired gleefully showed me one a couple of years ago in his DS. He’s not geeky, but he does have a pretty keen mechanical mind.

I dont go in for the 'piracy is killing us all' crap but I do notice something strange with the DS/R4 combo. There's a lot of people in my workplace who buy them for their kids' DS. It must be some word of mouth thing as one day everyone seemed to have one. The people who have them arent hackers/hardcore gamers/downloaders by all accounts either they're the mothers of little kids. They're quite open about it either happily recommend them to their friends and colleagues.

Quite perversely its true. I may download to try out the game but if I like it I buy it, otherwise it gets deleted. There is no way Im lugging all the FF (advance + DS) around when i can put them on one small chip. The big problem for Nintendo is the casual gamer who use to just have a DS now has a smartphone that has lots of casual games at a lower price point. Since getting the iPhone I have bought very few games for the DS. The DS really has come to the end of its shelf life and a new version needs to be launched and not just one with bigger screen etc.

That is probably the real reason for the drop in sales. The iPhone is doing very well as a mobile games platform. Always easier to blame piracy than accept that your product is dated and losing out to the iPhone.

I just find it very strange in this day and age that companies like Nintendo can not over come the likes of the R4 technology in a cartridge system

I find it equally strange that they don’t adopt it as a way of distributing or renting games to be honest. If people are happily downloading and putting games on such a device, then all Ninty has to do is legitimise it with their own download store.

They have one on the DSi/DSi XL Problem is it wasn't on the DS/DS Lite so they can't retro fit it, and the games have to work on all the devices.
