Great news PC Ernie is now on the no fly list. Not the government one, but the volcano one. :D

I've long been on the no-fly list - no passport, and after the government's 'security' efforts, even less inclination to get one

A driving licence is all you need as ID to fly to the mainland.
I'm supposed to be flying to Lahndan early Thursday morning.

It is probably a lot safer for you as well. The last thing that you want if flying is volcanic ash in the air. :D

You don't need a passport to fly anywhere in the EU, just an identity card.

You need a passport to get from the UK to the EU, unless you're travelling down from Northern Ireland in to Ireland.

France and Germany, for example, have id cards that are valid for getting about. Zaihnne may need hers to get through the chunnel in a few weeks time.

My girlfriend got into the UK and back out again without a passport, just showed her Ausweis (ID card) at passport control.

you must have a valid passport or government issued national ID card, which is why she was able to use it.

Haven't even got that, but I was actually only thinking foreign travel now that you mention it.

There's places I'd like to see, but I just can't justify the cost and my mates are bloody hopeless when it comes to money anyway...
