The Songwriters Guild of America has a message for the government: start prosecuting file-sharers, both criminally and civilly, because file-sharing is much worse than bank robbery.

Next it'll be worse than murder

Then it'll be worse than rape

Then it'll be worse than paedophilia

Then if you do it you're a terrorist

I hope they ask Obama to do this, and in a Shaft like moment turns round and tells them where to go and stick their plans

If they get it treated as theft, then the manufacturers could go after all the clone products as theft, and rather than the industry having to pay to resolve this, it will become a government burden. Imagine them being told by Apple to go after some company because they have copied an Apple product. Though maybe the songwriters are being sponsored by Goldman Sachs. ;)

Damn, I was hoping there'd be some photos of People of Reduced Stature robbing a bank. That would rock.

What an absolute load of cack. Here's the thing, the people 'stealing' the music were highly unlikely to EVER pay for it, so you haven't lost jack. Unless of course the downloads are being resold as CDs at a reasonable price somewhere :P

Oh, and I buy more music now than I ever did as a result of hearing it first (got burned with too many 'filler' albums over the years). I don't torrent music, but I'm assuming many use it as a testing ground.

Lets assume that they stop all piracy by whatever means. Will you actually buy more? Probably not. Unless you hear it somewhere else you are unlikely to go out and buy it. I have one Hawaiian podcast that I listen to and actually bought a track off iTunes because of hearing it there. It was not available on Amazon as a CD, so bought it on iTunes. Without these forms of indirect listening will people actually go out and buy music. If you like pop music you can skip every artist album and just buy the "Now thats what I call music series" and nothing else if you liked it on the radio it will be there.
