Many EU members want a drop in the value of the Euro. It would enable then to export, price out imports, and reduce trade deficits and make it easier to trade their way out of the crisis. This funding is to support banks first and governments second.

AFAIk it's being reported today that we won't be propping up the euro.

I hope that decision doesn't come back to bite us in the arse.

It will make holidays in Europe cheaper if the Euro falls against the pound, but it will make our exports more expensive.

Bugger that, I'm worried about the Eurozone dragging the UK kicking and screaming back into recession.

It does depend on what they are asking for. If europe has another recession then it could push us into a recession, as we trade a lot with Europe.

Seems we've been mugged:

Potential £5 billion bill if it all goes pear-shaped.

Why worry? We have already mugged Iceland for that amount. :D

No, Tories will do that on their own by pulling the rug out from under the recovery. A good proportion of the public sector signing onto the dole queue, not procuring goods & services from the private sector, general instability and negativity in the market. A potential increase in VAT hurting consumer spending etc etc....

Hospitals turning back into slaughterhouses, schools migrating back to portacabin's etc etc

If we had joined the Euro, maybe it could have been the EU bailing us out rather than us on our own.

Yes but if we had joined the Euro we could have had a property bubble like Ireland, and look at what they are having to do to get themselves out of this mess.

I was gonna say you wouldn't believe how much Ireland depends on the building trade, but then you might

Yes but the Irish property bubble was really out of control compared to here. The losses have been considerably higher than here. We still have a way to fall, just a matter of when. Nationwide are predicting a 10% increase this year! How most people will be lucky if they get a pay increase that beats inflation. Many will have pay cuts to deal with.
