Well that would make the chances of a LibLab pact more likely. Clegg could not really support Labour if he was in the way. |

Looks like Lib/Con talks have stalled so now GB has announced he is going and Labour will agree to electoral reform then I think its very likely a grand coalition of Lab/Lib/SNP etc unless Cameron can offer Clegg a PR deal which I don't think he can. |

If PR is instituted then the Tories will never have a PM again. They have only been around 35% of the population so could never get enough support to lead the country again, unless of course they moderate their policies and get broader support. |

If we had and form of proportional or other voting system, then none of the parties would ever end up with an outright majority and we'd end up with the kind of political horse-trading we're seeing now. The problem we have is that the parties in this country are too entrenched in their own political views that getting them to agree on anything is a minor miracle. We'd be better off if we ditched the parties altogether and voted in a parliament full of people with no political affiliations at all - at least then they wouldn't be predjudiced by years of political indoctrination and ties to the unions/party donors etc. Whatever happens, they'll always be those for it, those against it and those that don't give a s***. |

I would like to see more independents or small parties, even heaven forbid UKIP and the BNP. Though by having a minimum percentage to get seats would possibly keep out the BNP it would allow in UKIP and Greens. Though apart from that there also needs to be funding reform. Maybe a lower fee to stand but one that you do not get back no matter if you win. Also a big drop in the amount that each party can spend, both locally and nationally. That would even things up for the smaller parties and independents. No advertising or third party ads, just party political broadcasts only. That would cut the costs nationally and a cap of say £2000 per candidate per constituency. That would stop the big parties buying seats. It would reduce the big parties dependance on trade unions and business by each of the parties. |
