Not something I'd have done, but the guy's being made an example of, probably because the police overreacted in the first place

Yes but the last place you make jokes about terrorism or bombs is an airport. The police did over react though.

That's what I mean, I wouldn't have done it, but the guy was presumably standing there bored and trying to keep his own spirits up :|

Yes but he could have said that the airport were going for some delay record or it was an evil plot to keep us spending in duty free. Neither would be misconstrued as a threat.

I'm sorry, but I can't accept that. The post was clearly satirical, at best he should have got a warning, prosecution is not a proportionate response in this case.

Yeah, but have you never sent something and regretted it? Or not even realised you had sent something stupid until it was pointed out? I'm sure he never thought it would come back on him, Twitter or not...

Yes but nothing that would make me wonder about whether it would cause a security issue.

I heard some idiot joking about bombs in the security queue at Eastmidlands Airport a few months ago. Luckily for him none of the staff were in earshot at the time. You've got to be total moron to mention teh B word at an airport these days, staff there don't (or aren't allowed to) have a sense of humor.

I think that it might also unnerve many other passengers. That might be another major reason, other than the risk of real attacks. By stopping false leads they can concentrate on the real threats.
