It's early days yet, plus it opens a door for other developers. The lack of stores carrying disc versions becomes less of an issue, as well as removing a barrier to mac/linux use. We just need Apple to think about their choice of GPU's...

I blogged about that too..Clicky

How does that work then, do apple cherry pick some GPU's and allow them? Surely it would be better for them to just let manufactures to write drivers?

Mac games http://www.macgames.co.uk

On linux it is mainly the ID back catalogue - Doom 3, Quake 4, ETQW etc, plus a load of indie titles like World of Goo - but the principles are the same - UNIX-like system, openGL etc

The only mac with user-changeable GPU's is the Mac Pro, the rest are soldered in. The ones that are soldered in need to be more powerful relative to the size of the screen.

lack of stores carrying discs is not always a problem, there is always Amazon and eBay as a last resort. I like to think that only the best games get ported across even if there is a delay, it filters out the dross. The games I like are not that hard on the machine so do not need to worry about GPU's.

If Steam gets loads more decent games on to linux then you could also see more home users opting for linux over Windows.

I hope so! That's why this is quite an exciting development - for me at least.

Not enough good ones, surely?

When you say the GFX cards aren't up to the job, is it just not running it or just not running it as well as a card that costs twice as much?
