It's early days yet, plus it opens a door for other developers. The lack of stores carrying disc versions becomes less of an issue, as well as removing a barrier to mac/linux use. We just need Apple to think about their choice of GPU's... I blogged about that too..Clicky |

How does that work then, do apple cherry pick some GPU's and allow them? Surely it would be better for them to just let manufactures to write drivers? |

Mac games http://www.macgames.co.uk On linux it is mainly the ID back catalogue - Doom 3, Quake 4, ETQW etc, plus a load of indie titles like World of Goo - but the principles are the same - UNIX-like system, openGL etc |

The only mac with user-changeable GPU's is the Mac Pro, the rest are soldered in. The ones that are soldered in need to be more powerful relative to the size of the screen. |

lack of stores carrying discs is not always a problem, there is always Amazon and eBay as a last resort. I like to think that only the best games get ported across even if there is a delay, it filters out the dross. The games I like are not that hard on the machine so do not need to worry about GPU's. |

If Steam gets loads more decent games on to linux then you could also see more home users opting for linux over Windows. |

I hope so! That's why this is quite an exciting development - for me at least. |

Not enough good ones, surely? When you say the GFX cards aren't up to the job, is it just not running it or just not running it as well as a card that costs twice as much? |
