So, a token gesture, to save something like 0.0000011% of the deficit.

I'd have been a little more impressed if they'd all agreed to stay at the standard MP salary and not take the ministerial pay grade at all.

As I've commented elsewhere, every little helps.
As a gesture it's not a bad starting point really.

Yes but can you see Cameron giving up more than 5% of his now £170 000 salary? ;)

They should get much tougher on all MP pay. A Pay freeze for the duration of parliament would be a start. Many others are having to have pay cuts so a freeze is still very generous.

Didn't the leader of the opposition already get paid a ministerial salary?

I agree, Mark, it's a gesture. But with a little more thought it could have been so much more than just five per cent. *shrug*

The more I think about this, the more I need to get into politics. Even without the ridiculous slush fund, I mean expenses system, it's a pretty damned good earner.

And you do not even have to be competent. Just get past the interviews and the jobs yours. If you ever get found out then you join the European Parliament as an MEP.

Hey Jon, did you see what Amnesia just said about you?

Or, in the case of David Cameron, get a relative to put a good word in for you...
