I thought they looked crap but then I saw all of the other mascots from over the years and, in comparison, they're spectacular.

Okay, I was sceptical when these two were announced yesterday. I had my WTF moment, especially after the Lisa Simpson fiasco. But, strange as it may seem, I can see what the organisers are trying to do here. http://www.london2012.com/mascots# That's the official video that explains Wenlock and Mandeville's creation. They're aimed at kids, to get them enthused about the Olympics. Both characters learn and interact with each other and their surroundings. I think they work. Probably not in a giant bloke-in-a-suit kind of way, but online where they'll be able to come to life and interact with youngsters. |
