Quote:
The Mayor of London has promised to ensure London has blanket Wi-Fi coverage by 2012.

Boris Johnson said he hoped "every lamppost and every bus stop" in the capital would become a wireless internet hotspot.

It is thought existing wiring and electrical supply in lampposts and bus stops would form the basis of the hotspots. A similar scheme is already running in the City of London.

Johnson, who was speaking at the Google Zeitgeist event in Hertfordshire, revealed that 22 London Boroughs had already signed up to the project.

However he did not elaborate on the cost of installing the technology or the price the end user will pay to access the Wi-Fi hotspots.

"London is the home of technological innovation," he said. "We in City Hall are doing our best to keep up, and one of our most important projects is called Wi-Fi London."

Not workable now that they voted in the Digital Economy Bill. So will the music industry sue the lampposts for aiding infringement or the councils that own them? Once they do that the scheme will be dead in the water.
