I think this is one of those issues where public opinion counts for niente, this is one of those issues where an evidence-based/science-led policy needs to be in place. |

I can see the need for nuclear power but with the decommissioning costs falling on the government they need to add a tax to it that will be used to provide a sinking fund to cover the eventual costs. That tax should be the same as a high carbon tax that would make renewables the cheapest option by 5% and then coal and nuclear. With nuclear paying a decommissioning tax and fossil fuels paying a carbon tax. It would also eliminate the cost advantages of nuclear so that renewables can flourish. |
