If it's 45% at the top uni's, then I'll bet that number is even higher for the more common uni's.

Seems obvious to me that if everyone goes to uni and gets a degree, it devalues the qualification, and people will still end up in worthless jobs.

Yet again, your common sense is obvious to some, yet clearly profound to others. I also could have told them this years ago and consequently didn't fancy the debt and waste of time just to work in Asda.

Yes the figures that Labour gave for the benefit of a degree (£400 000 over a lifetime) are already disappearing. I could never see the justification of so many getting a degree. In the US where many get degrees they end up having to be an unpaid intern for months in the hope of proving themselves worthy of a job. I cant see the coalition ending the farce. Too many middle class voters think that their little Tarquin or Jocasta is bright enough to go to Oxford or Cambridge, let alone end up in some office as an assistant. _________________Do concentrate, 007... It would be interesting to see how this varies with the degree course being taken. After all, what sort of prospects does someone with a degree in American Studies compared to someone with a degree in Medicine?

Medical degrees are still in demand if not here elsewhere. Degrees with American studies probably have no more of a job premium than golf course management degrees. When fewer people got a degree then it marked you out as one of the elite, but now that 50% are getting them it does not mean much at all. Many employers started restricting graduate admissions to the top twelve universities more than a decade ago when the government ramped up university access. If you did not go to one of these top 12 universities you are simply wasting your time and money with some employers, who will not even consider you. _________________Do concentrate, 007...
