http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1281696/Should-grandparents-right-stop-grandchildren-aborted.html

Long and anger-inducing story short:

Woman has dangerous health condition controlled by strong drugs. Plans to never have children due to health risks for both mother and child. Meets and falls in love with man who agrees to support her. Accidentally falls pregnant and arranges abortion. "Loving" partner "accidentally" tells his parents. His parents pressure her to continue the pregnancy regardless of health risks as she is their only chance at being grandparents. Woman has horrible pregnancy due to not being able to take strong drugs and consequently woman doesn't bond with child. 4 months later woman accidentally falls pregnant again, is determined to have abortion after first horrible pregnancy. "Loving" partner "accidentally" tells his parents again.... repeat as necessary.

The reason this really winds me up is that his parents were so selfish, completely ignored the fact that she could have died, but pressured her into carrying two children to term because they want to be grandparents. Why should they care after all if she died? She's not their daughter and they'd still have their precious son who could go on and meet a "normal" woman to bless him with a million babies. He clearly wasn't supporting her if he managed not once, but twice to slip the news to his parents.

In addition to this, even seeing how awful the first time was for her they then insisted on the same thing again when she fell pregnant again, how callous are these people? What if the second child had been born disabled? I bet that child wouldn't have had so much love and attention as their perfect blonde grandson *Grr* The woman shouldn't have bowed to their pressure and that annoys me as well!!

I'm annoyed (if you can't tell) but what do you think??

I agree with you.
Especially the second time. After all she'd gone through the first time she should have just said no. The first time you can maybe understand here changing her mind.

With regards to the question. Do Grand Parents Have Rights? The answer is a simple NO in my opinion. The parents rights are absolute.

To be honest, they both need to grow up, grow a pair and tell granny to f*** off. This is exactly the reason why several faiths talk of the couple leaving their families and joining with each other.

Secondly, husband needs a f***ing slap! Why the hell would you let your wife be exposed to that kind of emotional blackmail? Twice.

Sorry but this is one of the bees in my bonnet.

I get the impression he wanted the baby, but he could get what he wanted without getting any stick off his wife if he let the grandparents do the dirty work. Two faced git.

"grandparents" have no rights over their own children once they are 18. Hence they have no rights over their grandchildren.

No one has the "right" to grandchildren.

I think that is disgraceful. As Rusty says, the guy needs a slap for putting his partner in danger and a double slapping for using his parents to blackmail her! The grandparents also need a slapping for their actions.

As to the woman, she should have ignored them and gone through with an abortion, if it is so dangerous for her to carry to term - even if it meant running away. Although I can understand the angst of possibly losing a "loving" partner; but she should remember, if he really loved her, he would support her and not force her to carry the baby to term, if it is medically dangerous.

Just for once I agree with everyone. The husband needs a slap, as do his parents, for their selfishness and the wife needs to be told to stand up for herself.
