I agree with him, too much is based on getting ratings that appeal to the lowest common denominator. |

I agree in some sense, how much TV is worth watching at the minute? I posted a link earlier in TRST about how my lecturer was on BBC Radio Wales earlier saying that he hadn't owned a TV in 15 years. TBH, in the last 15 years, what has he really missed? Compare the total time a really good series is on TV for (Between 10 - 20 hours per season over a few weeks?) with the amount of time TV is being broadcast (24 hours * 100 channels = 2400 hours a day) and you really aren't missing much. I can see TV in a few years being a lot more on demand, with a mechanism to stream content over a dedicated line to a dedicated box. This service would also include a download service which means you effectively buy the content (much like iTunes store). I could see there still being channels, but these would be much more a stream of 'random' content which you could tune into if you were bored. |

With iPlayer do you really need a TV, you could watch it all that way and without a license. ![]() Aside from that I barely watch the TV at the moment. The only thing that I watch is Springwatch, though without Bill Oddie for some reason. |

Of course there's a load of tripe on TV but I've seen programs that have opened me up to a world I wouldnt have seen otherwise. Obviously I'm not referring to Celebrity Britain's Got The Dancing Factor On Ice but some of the recent (BBC) documentaries over the last few years have been amazing. |

+1 There's plenty of roses there if you can find them among the weeds. |

I think I'd only add the odd sporting event and QI to that list. |

I'd forgotten QI was back soon (or it should be). TG too, though if it comes back the way the last series was, I'm done ![]() |

QI is excellant. Though the basic premise that the BBC and ITV are chasing ratings has increased the dross content considerably. How long has it been since ITV have done a decent drama? Only one I can think of is Doc Martin. |

The only one I've ever watched recently is The Fixer, though you could also class that as a thriller maybe... |
