As the vast majority of tenants appear to be happy, it would be a shame to increase costs for everyone just because a minority fail to research their agent/landlord properly. |

Well in my experience, and according to the survey, that is not the case.
The huge majority of agents are just lazy - it's as simple as that. And they're lazy on both sides, in their dealings with both tenants and landlords. |

A little survey no doubt performed by the CAB or ARLA is more than likely going to have a number of unhappy respondents. ![]() |

My girlfriend and her friends were letting through a letting agency in years 2 and 3 of university. To say they [the letting agency] didn't have a clue about their responsibilities, nor apparently housing law would be an understatement. Never have I seen a company so brazenly violate people's privacy and not give a [LIFTED] that they've done it either. |

Yeah, you do hear a lot of horror stories from students. Infact, I'm yet to meet anyone who is happy with the service they receive. |

I rented 3 different places back at Oxford. Two privately and one through an agency. The two private lets were absolutely fine. The agency let got off to a bad start by demanding 13 post-dated cheques in advance for the rent and deposit, and then cashing 4 of them in one go effectively shutting down my bank account. This made me very angry so I blew up the house, the c*nts. |

How did they manage to bank post-dated cheques?? |

The bank told me that it's not legally binding to post-date cheques, and they were breaking the law simply by asking for them. |

From the 4 flats I've rented, I've only had one agent, and, after I signed the lease, I never spoke to them again, until I moved out... All the other flats were rented out privately. That said, my mother's house was pretty much demolished by the tenants and they were often late with payment and the letting agent did bugger all! ![]() |

Stories of nightmare agents are everywhere. It is stupid to stop a law that makes a lot of sense. |
