Flock — the so-called social web browser — has dumped its traditional Firefox core in favor of Chromium, the open source incarnation of Google's Chrome browser.

Bit of a wow there.

I might even be persuaded to give Chromium a try.

I've had the Mac version of Flock installed at work for a few years, for testing purposes mainly, alongside Firefox, Safari and Camino. Whilst Firefox has received a plethora of updates in that time, I think flock has maybe had one update, possibly two - which worried me from a security point of view - hence why it's not used as my day-to-day browser. I've never really been a fan of the Mozilla-based browsers, they just don't feel very Mac-like - more like a Windows app ported to Mac...badly.

Hopefully with a Chrome base, it might actually take off and keep updated too. I've always thought there was a good basis for a browser in Flock that offers something a bit different, it's just that the developers didn't really expand on it or keep it up to date with the other Mozilla strands like Firefox. Presumably the switch to Chrome code also means a switch to using WebKit too, yes?

Good luck to 'em. Will give it another go when they finally release the Mac version later this summer.

What!? Camino is a brilliantly ported app! It acts and feels very much like a Mac application!

Of course, sorry... yes, Camino is the only one that looks and behaves like a Mac app - I was forgetting Camino was a Mozilla browser, I actually use it as my main browser at work and at home! I was mainly thinking about Firefox, it just doesn't feel Mac-like - can't quite put my finger on it! Sorry, it's late and I wasn't thinking clearly!
