Moving the clocks forward one hour would save hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide each year, campaigners say.

A study for the 10:10 climate campaign suggested putting clocks forward during winter to an hour ahead of GMT could save almost 500,000 tonnes of CO2.

They say it would make evenings lighter and reduce peak electricity demands.

Hmph. If people just got up earlier, we wouldn't need to move the clocks forward.

The government would do better to introduce and enforce more flexible working hours.

Personally, I find it difficult to get to sleep when it's light outside, resulting in me going to sleep later and later as the summer days get longer and longer. If the light stays around for an hour more, it'll push my bedtime forward an hour too!
Also, what about the darker mornings? Less visibility could mean more accidents, plus people may not feel as awake because of the lack of light, meaning reduced attention.

Epic, epic Fail.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - moving the clocks won't make the blindest bit of difference. People will still use the same amount of electricity - all you're doing is moving when it occurs.

Secondly, the time is the time it is because of where the Sun is in the sky, idiots.

Thirdly, if you want to reduce the amount of energy people use, try starting a "Don't turn it up - wear a jumper" campaign.

Fourthly, if the government was to have all council offices, hospitals, schools etc. start at 8am, I contend that the rest of the country would adjust to match.
