The guy wasn't removed from the plane to see his dying aunt. He was removed because he was too large. He was on the flight to see his aunt. Headline fail. |

I'm with the airline on this one. If you're that fat you either pay for a business class seat or two economy seats. He obviously knew his size was an issue as he asked for an extra seat at check-in. Why should: a) the person sat next to him have him overflowing into their already limited space. b) the airline lose out on a fare paying passenger if they have to give him and extra seat free? Being fat isn't a disability, it's a lifestyle choice. |

Exactly. Why was this man plucked from the flight? Was it a mercy dash to see his dying aunt, and it couldn't wait until he got back from where he was going? Did family members tearfully persuade the airline to extricate the guy so he could see his aunt one more time? No, he was removed because he was deemed "too large". The dying aunt bit is not the main angle. Shoddy journalism and sub-editing at the Beeb. It's becoming too common as they drop standards in the endless downward spiral for "ratings". |

I think the airline acted well by asking him to follow the steward off the plane rather than pointing out at his seat that he was too large. Perhaps they should put a test seat at check-in, next to those cages that your carry-on has to fit in. ![]() |

They already do, potentially. It's called a metal detector - all they need to do is make it a bit narrower. |

Put up a sign: “No Fatties”. I had to sit next to a fat Texan on a flight to the USA once. It was unpleasant on many levels. |

They could easily do it by installing weight pads in the floor at check-in. Exceed the set weight limit for one seat, you get offered the chance of paying for two seats, or you don't fly. Simples. |

Or they could create some rows with larger seats and charge a bit more for those... rather than cramming people in tighter than veal to make as much money as possible from each flight... |

Key words being: "a bit more" not (in some cases) double the cost of economy, especially if you are one half of a couple going on holiday and only one of you needs a larger seat..... |
