A plan to move the most famous awards ceremony in showbusiness to January was discussed by governors of the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences at a board meeting this week.
The awards are currently held at the end of February but the difference of less than two months would spell chaos for Hollywood's bodyclock, much of it dictated by the need to win those famous golden statuettes.

So all those other award ceremonies can then just move themselves to before the oscars and were back to square one. The reason why audiences are dwindling is that the ceremony is boring and far too long plus people have so much more to do now days.

They will end up destroying each other. As it is there is enough time to get people from one event to another. By moving them closer they will either abandon other events but many awards are sometimes forerunners to the Oscars so give a nod as to who might win. If the Oscars are first what is the point of the other awards?

Anyone who's influenced by how many Oscars something won/was nominated for needs a slap - have you seen some of the dross that gets nominated, never mind goes on to win? Who cares if a film's won awards when making a viewing decision? :?

There are people who will watch a oscar winning film to see exactly why. Being Oscar nominated can be a serious boost for a small art house film. That was why so much effort is placed into getting nominated.

So the best picture of the year could now be in Jan. Why don't they go full retard and go a year in advance, so the best picture of 2011 is actually awarded best picture 2012? That'll kill the competition I'm sure.

Or they could go the other way around, like magazines do. The best film of 2014 announced in 2011.

You Never go full retard!

As he said you never go full retard if you want an Oscar.

All that happens is that the studios will adjust their release dates to give them the best chance of winning. If they fixed the rules so that a film had to be premiered between 1st Jan and 31st December to be eligible for the next awards and limit the campaigning so that it is not down to who promotes it best to the judges. The other awards are like runners up awards.
