 | | | | Quote: £1.4 million. That's how much Nintendo President Satoru Iwata makes in a year. Which is a lot, but actually not as much as we expected from the guy who sits at the top of the company that can barely shovel Wii and DS consoles into the hands of eager buyers years after their launches.
According to a recent shareholder meeting, Iwata's fixed annual wage is only 78 million (which is around £585,000). But, lumped onto that are performance-based bonuses and, as you will have heard, Nintendo has been doing pretty bloody well over the past few years. That gives him another 109 million.
That brings his earnings up to the 187 million (£1.4 million) total figure he gets to no doubt spend on a giant house with a pool and water slide, a Hummer and/or Escalade rolling on 24-inch wheels, strippers and drugs. Lots of drugs. Or maybe just good luck charms, waving cats, microscopic TVs and life-size Gundam statues. We don't know.
In comparison, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada rakes in 240 million (£1.8 million), while Sega Sammy Holdings CEO Osamu Satomi could buy both of their souls and sell them on eBay with his fat 435 million (£3.2 million).
But wait, Sony CEO Howard Stringer gets 816.5 million (£6.1 million). And that's in the company that's only just started making money off its console sales.
Iwata, you're getting ripped mate. Have a word. | | | | |
We're all in the wrong line of work (or most of us at least)

After watching Mary Queen Of Shops, I’ve decided that I am certainly in the wrong line of work. 1 - Buy any old furniture from second hand and charity shops for around £50 2 - Paint in emulsion 3 - Sell for upwards of £500 The Harry Enfield shop “I Saw You Coming” sketches sprang to mind on Monday. Thing is, there appears to be people willing to part with silly amounts of cash for old G-Plan furniture daubed in paint.

Yes but unless he demands crazy increases he could probably get that sum for the rest of his life. Sony's boss would need to justify his worth every year.

Well some were outside his control like the bad batch of laptop batteries. Though he scrapped through with BluRay.
