Quote: UK game retailers are set to take a hit on VAT when the planned rise comes into effect in January.
That's according to "senior industry figures," who've told MCV that they aren't willing to let the price of games increase above £39.99. God bless you, senior industry figures.
The 2.5 percent VAT increase was announced by Chancellor George Osborne last week as part of the Emergency Budget.
Speaking to MCV, Kim Bayley, director general of the Entertainment Retailers Association, said this kind of increase could lead to closures.
"This is a big increase which is bound to have an impact on retail," she said.
"Government action often produces unintended consequences and if the result of this rise was to lead to more closures and interfere with the ecology of entertainment retailing, no one should be surprised if there is a outcry."
Games are considered by many as already too expensive and the current cost of gaming is often cited as the reason for high used games sales.
Still, it's alright for the big boys to swallow the costs but what about our precious indie game shops?
