Future Publishing's prestigious PC Zone is set to close.
In a brief blog post today, the CVG sister magazine wrote in a statement:
'Yes, it's true. Following a strategic review of Future's PC games portfolio, the company is now consulting the PC Zone team about the proposed closure of the magazine, with effect from issue 225 (on-sale 2nd September).
'That's all we can say for now. But rest assured: if 225 does turn out to be PC Zone's final issue, we're going to break ourselves to make it a bloody brilliant finale to 17 years and 5 months of the best PC gaming magazine the world's ever seen.'
The magazine launched back in 1993, and was purchased by Future Publishing in 2004.

I always preferred PC Zone to PC Gamer. Mind you, with that said, PC Zone has been rather juvenile with regard to content in recent years. It's certainly not the same magazine as the PC Zone of the 90s (back in the days of other great magazines, such as Playstation Power).

The problem is that there are too many magazines for the market. People are cutting back on discretionary purchases but the subscriptions could be enough to maintain a smaller magazine. There have been closures of this kind before. The older members must remember magazines disappearing before.

bastards! I have been subscribing to PCZONE for the last 11 years and reading it since 1995. Tis a sad sad day Its the one magazine that I could rely on to get its reviews right (YMMV) and I have avoid a few turkeys because of it. An era has passed.
