I guess it depends how many people block the ads. I would guess it's not many, so it's worth allowing them to block ads to keep those users happy. |

It depends. The only thing that I hate are the noisy ads. If I can get away with a flash blocker then I will be happy with the ads being there. I do appreciate that sites need them to be visible to make money. |

I haven't blocked ads for years. I used to, but not any more. I generally just stop the advertisers running JavaScript or Flash object... |

I am going in that direction. I am giving ads a chance as long as they are not so annoying. As long as advertisers realise that they will find ad blockers will be less of a problem. |

Because the ads keep some sites afloat. If you block the ads, they don't get any revenue and the site may disappear... It is all about eye balls. I am happy to let them display static ads, but if they want to give me Flash ads, they can go screw. |

The worst ones are the ones like MSN has every now and then that if you slightly accidentally go over it with your mouse it expands so you can't get to where you want to until its finished. |

I will grant you that. There was one that was for a anti virus program that buzzed and since I have my speakers on they just obliterate anything that I am listening to. The worst examples of the expanding ad were on the PCPro forums.

But how do they know I'm blocking the ads I'm never gonna click on? Cookies (that I wouldn't want on my system anyway) or something? And couldn't they just make the page unreadable until the blocker was switched off? (though they'd be asking for trouble, frankly) |

I am not sure exactly how it works but it does not download the images and sites can tell what is downloaded and displayed. Since many ads deals are dependant on actually being viewed that affects website income. |

Some website will display " :-[ " instead of advert and suggest that you turn your adblock off, I can't remember the name though. I also came across one that refused to display any news until disable adblocker entirely. Obviously I don't know the name because I don't use that website. Advertisers can use test based adverts, I won't mind those as they are not gonna spoil my browsing experience too much. But I am not going to switch my adblock in any circumstances and I don't care if they go bankrupt or not. Regarding Chrome browser, I thought it is open source in which case I am sure that somebody will come up with adblock for it right? |

Ta. I've no problems with ads so long as they aren't obtrusive, but that's the problem; the vast majority of sites I visit are loaded with crap like that, so the ad-blocker winds up hurting the chances of 'good' sites cos I'm just not gonna test out every site I visit... At this point, the ad-blocker makes my web page reading a lot smaller in structure, and therefore easier to read. Also, I don't think I've bought/investigated something just cos I saw it in an online ad in my life, my brain just goes, 'HP printer, that can be ignored...' etc. I doubt targeted ads would do them any favours in my case either, especially knowing they were targeted at me
