Yeah, this strikes me as being particularly stupid, mostly because all BP garages are independent franchises, not part of a large conglomerate.

+1 Greenpeace are idiots. All they do it look at (and try to make) headlines. If they took the time to do some research they wouldn't do half the stupid things they do.

with owning less than 200 out of the 11000 BP branded stations BP isnt going to be that worried about the loss of sales. Especially as they may be supplying petrol to other stations. Although IIRC most of the big oil companies make very little from the forecourt sale of petrol, so a boycott will only really harm the small franchisee.
Though we could move to Shell ... but what about there human rights record in the Nigerian Delta?
er ok Exxon ..biggest oil disaster(barring the mexican gulf incident) and the dodging of its liabilities in the clean up ok what about Chevon I hear you ask.. well major tax avoiders, facing $28 billion lawsuit over environmental dmage in Ecuador.

Exactly none are much better overall. Though BP's US safety record was woeful. Any such action does not really impact BP just the franchisee who works on pitiful margins anyway.
