I was going to mention Lara Croft. Now that game sold very well. It does not have to be a female lead. Some games make the hero any sex you want so can play as a man or a woman. KOTORII and Fable are like that. |

they forgot Ms. Pacman too ![]() activision needs a serious reality check. just because they are making millions off the disenfranchised dreams of young gullible males and lack the imagination to do anything else, doesnt mean that games with female leads dont work. just that Craptivision do not understand how they work. id definitely rather play metroid over call of duty any day. |

I instantly thought of Tomb Raider too. If a game is good enough, it doesn't matter whether the lead is male/female/neither. |

I think that this is an excuse to avoid female centred games. The lead character could be male or female. Good games make it irrelevant. |

Um, the True Crime games are effing rubbish. Try making a decent game before you worry about marketing the lead character, you dolts. |

Yes the game design is the flaw not the character. I think that this is a company blaming a sexist public rather than accepting that they produced a crap game. |

I also thought of Tomb Raider. A more current one that has also sold very well is Mirror's Edge. |

Actually Mirror's Edge didn't sell all that well. Not a 'flop' but didn't really meet expectations. According to wikipedia
Sad, because it's a very good game in fact. General opinion is it was released at the wrong time - in the middle of the Christmas crush and got 'lost' a bit against the likes of COD & FIFA. It's still around on the shelves though so I assume it's got quite a good 'tail'. In this game's case though I do think it had absolutely nothing to do with the lead character, since you very rarely see your character other than in the cut scenes. And her feet occasionally. wikipedia does suggest a sequel is in the works though, which I'm quite pleased about. Jon |
