Sony has apologised to PS3 owners for causing HDD-related issues with its latest Firmware update.

As CVG reported last week, PS3 Firmware update 3.41 left gamers unable to successfully change their HDD.

As a result, Sony has released a new version of the Firmware, which is says will resolve the issues.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said today in a statement:

For those users who are replacing the PS3 hard disk drive: we are aware of the symptoms with the system software update 3.41, released on July 27, and that it will cause the update to stop in some occasions while replacing the PlayStation 3 (PS3) Hard Disk Drive (HDD) if the PS3 system is installed with version 3.41.

To resolve these symptoms, we have released a new version of system software update 3.41 with a very minor change (the version number does not change) on August 2. If you are experiencing such symptoms when replacing the HDD of your PS3 system, we kindly ask you to use the latest data and try again. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding and continued support.

For any other questions, please contact your local customer service.

There wouldn't have been a problem really if they'd just said as much in the first place...

You would have thought that they would have tested the patch before releasing. It is not as if they have a multitude of configurations to worry about like Microsoft.

Why they have the money and can afford to high the best Japanese and even Chinese or Indian programmers? Don't they even try it out in-house beforehand to see if it works?

Rootkits, ridiculous music voucher schemes, idiotic, PR-damaging statements from your gaming division, formats (hardware and software) that are more of a hindrance than anything else, your game system's CPU allegedly being a bit of a bugger to develop for... ;)
