The corporation's staff reported the loss of 146 laptops, 65 mobile phones and 17 Blackberry devices between April 2008 and March this year.

Computer security firm Absolute Software, who put in the request, said staff needed to be more careful.

A BBC spokeswoman said the corporation took any thefts very seriously.

Clearly not taking the losses seriously enough.

It is interesting that the request came from a security firm. Clearly looking for potential business. Though with the size of the BBC it is not unexpected.

Maybe the laptops were all Macbooks like on all the BBC progs ;)

Yes but once they have collated that information by making it public they stop any company gaining commercial advantage from the information.

I wonder how many were stolen and how many were "stolen" (ie taken home for own use or sold on)?
