Cuts of £2 billion at the Ministry of Justice could see 15,000 lose their jobs

Quote:
"Cuts on this scale cannot be delivered without closing prisons and bringing courts to a standstill," the union said.
PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: "This is the first indication of the true scale of the cuts being imposed upon departments by this coalition Government, and it paints a devastating picture.
"It is clear that the civil service will simply not be able to cope. We will take every opportunity to remind the Government and the public that there is an alternative and these politically-motivated cuts are entirely avoidable."

Not necessarily. Look at Ireland. Savage cuts and the national debt is practically the same and the deficit is still the same percentage. The country is going into a death spiral. The outflow of population is 60 000 a year and the government look very vulnerable to being ousted. Yet they have done exactly what the Coalition are doing here. They are tied in that their debts are in Euros and so they cannot print their way out of the problem like the UK.

If the English court system is anything like ours, I sure as fcuk wouldn't recommend detracting from the effort to deal with the backlog of cases

I could see them trying to tinker with the prisons, but I seriously doubt they have the balls to deal with the Daily Mail backlash if that happens...
