While I realise that some parents can't help but be on the dole for an amount of time, as a sweeping generalisation, people on the dole/benefits because it's easier than working. I wonder how much of that attitude is instilled into the kids... |

I think that the main reason is that they lack the networks that help them find jobs in the first place. Many people find jobs because they know someone. If a person is not working they do not find out about these vacancies, and cannot pass them on to their kids. Also this only applies to families with both parents not working. If the family consists of one worker and who does not then it would not apply. The non worker could be a stay at home mum. |

While this is true to an extent, there are more methods of finding vacancies than previous generations had. You've still got networking, as well as newspapers, internet, job centres, sending letters to companies hoping they might give something, even my secondary school helped people into work after they had failed to push them into 6th form/collage/uni... I've had one temp job thanks to one of my parents, every other job has been looking for myself. |

Yes but once you are in work it is a lot easier to find something else. The report also mention unemployment black spots. Not all these people want to live on the dole, there simply are not the the jobs there. |
