No. Just no. If anything, stop fiddling and leave us all at GMT. |

Yeah, Why not, when the clocks are due to change, move them half an hour and just leave them there ![]() |

If you really want to be eccentric then move them 14 minutes one year and 68 another? |

I say we should move time-zones to match with europe. If the Scots don't like it, well let them have what ever time-zone they want. I reckon they'd change it to match England's sooner or later anyway for convenience as much as anything. |

I am not fussed either way. I can see the green advantages of making the move permanent. |

What is this "double summertime" [LIFTED] about? Call it what it [LIFTED] is - Central European Time. Of course, I've answered my own question - if they mention the word "European" they're frightened everyone will run a country mile. I'm all in favour of CET. If Scotland doesn't like it, they can stick with GMT. |

Yes say we are switching to Central European Time and then the Conservatives and UKIP will be campaigning against it. Also allow the Scots to rename GMT to Glasgow Mean Time. ![]() |

A move to CET isn't going to be very helpful. Where's the advantage for our business? Part of the attraction for the US firms in the UK is that they're likely to be able to get in touch with us during the end of our working day. In one job, we had an office in Miami, us in London, another in Amsterdam. The times that Miami could talk to Amsterdam were few and far between (Holland would be too late in the day). It's just an hour, but why bother having a business on a small island off the coast of Europe, when it'd be easier and probably cheaper to just set up on the continent if the time's the same? |

If it matters that much finish at six and not five. We're going way beyond the concerns of business here, we're talking about the positive effects on mental & physical health and quality of life. |

Miami's only 5 hours behind us, giving a useful-ish over lap. Imagine working with an office in LA. I'd be sat in the office at 6pm, Miami's only 5 hours behind us, at the moment. If we were all required to be in the office on the same project, my staying till 6 means the Dutch staying till 7pm - ain't going to happen as they have this curious idea that they only work the hours they're meant to. Overtime is not a popular draw. The extra hour we enjoy is popular with the US banks as well, who've already been thinking about moving into Europe out of London as it is. Which positive affects are you referring to? |

The ones which were identified in the study, which is the only reason we're contemplating this move. A certain number of "sun hours" are wasted on 90%+ of people in the morning, and the study concluded that people would be happier and healthier if they were able to enjoy the sun for longer after work, when most people would be free to enjoy it. TBH I couldn't give a stuff what's good for business, human health and well-being trumps any business concerns in my book. |

Hasn't anyone noticed that there's quite a bit of this sunlight available in the morning, prior to going to work? So why can't people get up earlier and enjoy some sunlight before work then? More light in the evenings means less in the mornings, I'm going to guess. So people aren't properly awake, and trying to get to work. Isn't that dangerous for some professions that are already a bit risky, like cattle farming? |
