It's a PS3-only release but basically is a film noir story set in the fashion of a choose-your-own-adventure book. Apparently there are several different outcomes depending on your choices throughout the "game".
My own review (contains unimportant spoilers): For some reason this had a lot of fave reviews. Saw it on Play.com and ordered it at a whim. I'd heard it was an unusual game, not set in any kind of typical fashion. Figured I'd give it a bash. I'm not a huge gamer - more casual than anything else.
Right from the start, you know it's going to be an unusual adventure. You start off in your boxers in your bedroom. It's basically a tutorial level where you realise the nature of the control system. Little symbols flash up on screen at given points. So if you go to your wardrobe, a symbol with an arrow pointing to the right flashes up. If you press the right control stick to the right, the character opens the wardrobe. Pressing the L2 brings up thoughts the character has and you can select them so if there's "drink", "food", "work", "tired" as your options, going for "tired" means the character states he feels tired. Selecting "drink" results in the character saying he is thirsty and wants some coffee, at which point you can (or not) move your character to the coffee pot and pour yourself a cup. It's not just pressing buttons. You have to move your controller up/down/left/right depending on what's asked of you. Failing to do so can mean anything from nothing happening to losing a fight. In another scene, failing to sneak up on a robber means you then have to negotiate with them. This can either be successful or unsuccessful.
Choices. This is a big part of the game - choosing to do something or not can have a profound effect on the storyline. An example would be asking another person questions. Ask the right ones and you get the answer you were looking for. Failing to do so and you leave empty handed. Choosing whether to shoot someone or not is another choice that pops up.
There are times when you forget it's a game and watch the scene. One reviewer on another site said it was more like a film where you can choose what happens, and certainly the balance is more towards it being a film rather than a game.
Would I recommend it? As a new experience, yes. If you're the kind of gamer who bashes through levels and completes a game in a single day, this game is probably too slow-paced for you and not lacking enough action. If on the other hand, you're a casual gamer, it might be something you enjoy.
