Quote:
Halo: Reach, this year’s biggest Xbox 360 game, has been obtained by hackers and released into the wild, weeks before its official release date.

BitTorrent sites like The Pirate Bay currently feature torrents of the game, with hundreds of seeders and leechers downloading away. The Halo: Reach dump requires an Xbox 360 modification called JTAG, which lets users load games through a PC parallel port.

A member of console-modding website GameTuts said late last week that the group had obtained Halo: Reach. “So after a lot of .xex cracking etc.. Me and my team finally did it, we got Halo: Reach!” read the post. “This is not released for public, and we are not really planning on releasing either.”

According to reports, the modders got it from Microsoft, which had uploaded a build of the game to Xbox Live Marketplace but kept it behind what turned out to be a porous security fence. It’s not clear who exactly leaked the stolen game.

“We are still investigating details surrounding a claimed leak of Halo: Reach and have nothing further to share,” Microsoft said in a statement Monday.

Just LOL if that's true...

It's not a poor security fence, they put the game on the Games On Demand service, priced it at £10k+, then only give out keys to reviewers so they can get it.

If it got leaked and if they digitally signed each game (which TBH on anything pre-release they should) then it shouldn't be difficult to find who did it then get them greased up for their colossal shafting they will receive for breaking numerous laws both civil and criminal

Halo Reach download punished with XBL ban

Microsoft is showing no mercy to those who have downloaded Halo Reach pre-release, apparently issuing "permanent suspensions" to culprits' XBL membership.

Microsoft and Bungie have had a bit of a 'mare with the Halo Reach leak and its move on to torrent sites.

The platform holder promised to hit back aggressively yesterday.

With a price of £10k somebody might have actually paid it. Hardly outside the realms of pirates. :D

Absolutely, then they have a billing record and can track who bought it using even the most simple of backend content management systems

Most of the items they put on aren't visible and a code is the only way to get it, they have accidentally made them visible before but at that price no one would buy it.

There are a LOT more games on demand than you can see, I know of at least 5 more 1st party games that are on but not visible to members of the public

Halo reach might be on my to buy list depending on what game it is. Though I will be getting a genuine game much later in the year either new and heavily discounted or pre owned. So Microsoft are not going to lose out in my case.
