Don't get your hopes up if you're pining for an HD remake of Halo: Combat Evolved or another old Xbox favourite.

Microsoft says it isn't averse to releasing HD updates of past titles, but it isn't spending a lot of time thinking about the possibility.

"I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea," Microsoft Game Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer told IGN. "I'm going to think about it from the customer's perspective, and are we really delivering something of value to the customer at a price that they want?

"We obviously have a lot of new things going on, so the thought of re-doing a bunch of things is probably difficult to just weave into the overall portfolio," he added. "If you can provide real value to the customer, there could be possibilities for that, but I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it."

Sony has opted to release a number of HD remakes of PS2 title for PS3, including the first two God of War games and the upcoming Sly Cooper Collection, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.

A PS3 exclusive HD Prince of Persia Trilogy was also announced by Ubisoft earlier this month, while a Splinter Cell Collection is rumoured to be in the works too.

I'd like to play stuff I missed from the last gen like ICO and Shadow so I'm all for a remake.

The problem for Microsoft and any other games team is that unless the game was designed with scalability in mind the costs of a remake are probably greater than the potential returns as the majority of buyers will not buy another version of the game. I have Halo and will not buy a version just because it is now HD, especially if I have to buy it at £40.

Currently enjoying the God of War collection right now. I missed GoW 1 & 2 on the PS2 so its nice to be able to play them before I crack on with GoW3. Also looking forward to Shadow of the Colossus when that comes out.

The God of War collection came out at £20 (in Tesco at least), half the price of a PS3 game so whilst I agree that at £40 it is too much, you don't charge that much.

I'm surprised MS don't like the remake idea - I thought they were all for charging full price for a few tweaks.
