I would not be surprised if other games did this too. Pay to play is, sadly, a business model that is very successful.

I got a rather good one recently - Final Freeway 2. Basically a rip off of a 90s classic, but it was free and the game play is actually pretty good even on my now slightly dated phone.

However, an hour is probably all I'll spend on it!

Have you played Real Racing 2 on an iPad? It is great fun but I would not want to pay for the repairs. I would simply put the tablet on to charge and sleep till it was playable again. As a business model i can see it working on games like Farmville where you need others to help you and without active friends you struggle. So buying coins is one way to overcome that obstacle.
