Funny, I was watching a film just last night where a guy pretended to rape a woman - she enjoyed it. You know, cos it wasn't real.

I seriously doubt that she would enjoy it if it were in any way real. Role play is fine if you have consented and have safe words if it gets out of control. Though really should it be in a game?

The point I'm making is the scene in the game actually depicts a film being made. If we can show all sorts in films, why not games?

Hundreds of millions are spent making games as realistic as the tech allows; it's the natural progression that's already been reached by every other art/media form. In this case, it's a 'shocking' twist in the narrative, but one that's been used elsewhere many times before. Even on TV shows.

It's actually less of an issue than the comics I buy being placed in the kids section out of ignorance - I'm not sure kids should be reading about the Joker 'date-raping' a female DA before strangling her with her own clothes...

The placing among the kiddies comics is down to ignorance by staff, but then I would not expect them to know what is in every sealed magazine. Also graphic novels are really aimed at adults and so stronger themes are appropriate. The problem about it in a game is that many games are bought by kids.

Games at least come with suggested age ratings and restrictions on availability, same as nearly every other form of media.

This is only the start. Games have been interactive movies for a very long time now, and if you can watch it in a film why not a game? It'll be a very brave mainstream developer/publisher who actually lets your avatar rape someone as an option.

Yes games are like mini interactive movies. Some of the cut scenes are incredible.

Having read the actual PC Gamer article in question, it's made quite clear this is a scene, not an actual rape (not that something virtual is an actual rape, but you catch my drift).

Though it does strike me as odd that we apparently have boundaries about what's acceptable in games. Murder is OK, but sexual violence is a no-no?
