If it's hosted on a local machine expect really high pings.

But it's not hosted on a local machine, it's hosted by Infinity Ward! My ping is usually around 50ms - fscking quick I'd say.

When your used to playing on custom made maps against up to 53 other players and that is taken away from you as well as any control you have against disruptive or cheating gimps it makes quite a difference to a multi-player game. As for hosting a game IW don't allow you to chose how you host the game in public, it has to be in a "private match". As you use the 360 for gaming you will not have noticed anything different but as a PC gamer it is a big step backwards. Hope it helps you understand why some of us are slightly p i ss ed off with IW & Activision. yours wecrookie

If i remember correctly a reason for IW.NET was to make it easier for PC gamers to join games and less hassle. Dedicated servers was too complicated for "those gamers that just want to join a game " and not search through a list of servers. It will : QUOTE " automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your same SKILL. So you're always guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you're playing on as well as an equal game with other players of your same skill level, not rank, but skill level." QUOTEIW's Robert Bowling has confirmed that the developer is working on another patch for the game, after widespread reports of the matchmaking system dumping players into private matches or showing that there are no games available - which is obviously rubbish considering half the human race is playing it at all times. Speaking on Twitter, Bowling said in reply to complaints over the glitches: "Yep. Aware and there is already a fix in the works. I'll keep you posted as things progress." So all in all another good week for Infinity Ward Maybe just maybe dedicated servers might not have been a bad idea as they seemed to have worked for PC games in the past yours wecrookie

This isn't just affecting the PC version, is it? I've got this game on 360 and since Christmas it's been getting a bit flakey. Today I joined a game where the movement was really really really fast - walking was faster than normal sprints, and sprinting was crazy fast. Like half a second after sprinting you'd hit a wall or fence or something. I'm also getting the bugs with joining games - quite often I'm sat around like a lemon waiting for it to find me a match. It takes aaaaaages!

I'm on the PS3 and have similar issues at times. Sometimes the movement is stupidly fast, though I manage to keep pace. At other times, it's laggy as hell and I'm dead before I even have a chance to aim (despite the fact the enemy is right in front of me). As for waiting, sometimes I can jump right into a match and, at other times, I wait ages for enough players before getting kicked out of the lobby! Still, it's pretty fun and I'm heading towards lvl 40. I think what annoys me is that there are some people who have reached prestige 1 and 2. Example, you reach lvl 70 and level up. The next level is lvl 1 so you start back at the beginning. Which is annoying because sometimes you don't know if you're up against a newb or a pro. Even more annoyingly, in teach matches, there's usually some inconsistency eg I happen to be in a 5-man team of level 1-50'ers against a 6-man team of level 60+.

IW.NET WILL Quote :automatically find you a game with the best performance, ping, and preferences based on your location and individual connection as well as matching you with players of your SKILL.So you're ALWAYS guaranteed the best game performance for where you are and what connection you're playing on as well as an equal game with players of your same skill level,NOT RANK, but skill level. So a good job done by Actavision & IW yours wecrookie

Well I don't consider that to be happening. If that happened, then I would expect a broad spread of results - sometimes winning, sometimes last and sometimes inbetween. As it happens, 90% of the time I will be in the bottom half.
