GTA IV - is it just me, or is this game a bit crap?

I've just gone back to GTA IV after a long break (I do that sometimes). I'm loving it all over again. The game is immense to be honest. The camera is a litrtle annoying sometimes but its a minor gripe for me. The level of detail is amazing, like taking a taxi ride and just watching out of the window at the 'world' carrying on with their business.

Changing the controls has given the game a new lease of life for me, but the camera is annoying at the worst possible times :(

Oh, and last night, just as I had wasted everybody in a warehouse and was about to go out and face the cops... the fcuking game froze :x

Would that be when coming over the brow of a hill or bridge blind only to find queuing traffic and a resulting pile-up by any chance? Thats when it gets me.

The PC version never has for me, but the PS3 version did once, but that's about it. As I save after every mission it wasn't a big problem.

Awesome game though. I've taken my time with it and I'm going throught the side quests now - car thefts & stuff and it is nice just watching the world go by and listening to some of the weird things the pedestrians come out with. It's one of the things I liked about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. You could just stand there and watch as people and animals went about, doing their thing.

That'll be the one ;)

It's crashed twice on me, though it could be either the disc or the fact that the PS3 has been on for hours beforehand in my tiny friggin' room

A quick search says it's £15 new and delivered online, or £13 used at Game (delivered) ;)

I'll hopefully get playing it again later tonight :)

I hate to think how many days I spent playing VC and SA, but after just 20 mins on GTA 4 I gave up. By adding realism they've taken away some of the fun. :?

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I honestly think the change to realism will have cost them a lot of fans, but then it's hard to see what they could have done otherwise considering they'd have been slated if it was done comically with the capabilities of today's consoles and PCs...

I've started to look at it a bit like playing a movie, but there's times you want that and times you don't ;)

I like the new style - it is very much "of its time" and the updated physics and handling are great too. The could have done it cell-shaded I suppose, but I don't think that would have been as good.

OK, anyone had problems with the game freezing up around the Manny mission where you take out a bunch of dealers at a garage shooting from your car?

Not only does it fcuk up your current game, you then have to hard boot the PS3!

Other forums have mentioned signing out from PSN first, so I'll try that tomorrow. Failing that, can I wipe the GTA install data but still keep my game saves (I appreciate the saves could be the problem ;) )?

Both GTA and the PS3 are up to date and the disc itself is like new...

It hasn't happened to me, but we were on a different firmware version when I was playing it on PS3. Luckily the install data and the save games are stored separately, so you can remove the install data and reinstall it, keeping your saves intact.

Cheers for that, if signing out from the network doesn't help I'll back everything up and delete the install data :)
