CBA with wires, don't like the look of the new one, want a blu-ray player, already using the SCART (for Cable) and component (for VHS player - hey the girls have a lot of disney films!) inputs on my TV so only have HDMI left, there's a couple of PS3 games I want that aren't out on Xbox360 (Unchartered, LBP).
Amongst other reasons.
Oh well i'll dive in with the buying of this thing. If it turned out that all PS3s were going to get backwards compatibility i'd still get an older model, just wouldn't be the 60GB one! (Would be one with the biggest HDD).

The HDD is so easy to replace that a monkey, nay, even my sister could do it. My "60GB" model now has a 500GB HDD...

QFT Well... not many that are actually available to buy.... GoW3, GT5, MAG etc all waiting for release. Why not just get a blu ray player + PS2, that would be like £150 max (based on a £100 Sony Blu-Ray player) for those then trade in the PS2 + games when you get the PS3 Someone on Hexus is sellign a PS2 + guitar hero and some other games for £60, it's not much for a console + games & accessories

Nah too late.
I don't think I got a bad deal.
PS3 plus 4 games (LBP which I want, Fifa 10 which my nephews want for their PS3 so they can have that, CoD WaW which isn't bad and Smackdown vs Raw which again my nephews want) for £230.
Guess i'll be joining you guys on the PSN soon enough =)

There's a brilliant new game coming out for the PS3. You play a tech savvy consumer who walks into a shop looking for a new console. You're offered an eggbox or a PS3, if you choose the PS3 you advance to the next level whereas if you choose the eggbox 360 you get a full 1080P, gloriously rendered video whereby you get to watch your new eggbox RRoD.

At least the 360 games look comparatively better on the 360 than ps3, Oblivion etc. Shame that a lot of the exclusives aren't hashed in SD too (Haze) AAAAND You don't get a 3 year warranty

You don't need a 3 year warranty - come March my PS3 will have lasted 3 years. Additionally warranties are rubbish, if my eggbox failed to last it would go back to the retailer - I have up to 6 years to do that.

Good time proving a games console is expected to last up to 6 years and that a fault was known at the time of sale

You're right, since most eggboxes fail within 48 hours you would have a hard time proving it could reasonably be expected to last longer.

I have 4 Xboxes. One is banned from Live (bought it that way) and runs Linux. The other runs something called FreeBoot so I can run homebrew on it (like Doom, Duke Numem 3d, etc etc). The other two have flashed drives and one of them got the RROD. A 10-minute fix and it was working again. And the other one is downstairs, where my dad thrashes it's arse off all day and it's still going. If that's not end-user customization (which the PS3 has none of), then I don't know what is. You can't even install Linux on a PS3 any more, which was one of the main selling points of it in the first place! Even the PS3's YLOD cannot be fixed, and the BR-ROM drives are flaky as hell. And the framerate is crappy on the PS3 compared to the Xbox. And it looks awful. And the slim is even uglier. And the controller feels like a 25p chinese toy. The list goes on and on. Also, the PS3 exclusives suck balls. Haze is crap, and Unchartered are Prince of Persia with a new character and stupid stories. And contrary to your beliefs, the Xbox does output full 1080P. Infact, I run it at that res (1920×1080 progressive scan) on my computer monitor when I play my xbox. And it works pretty well, even though (like the PS3) it upscales the picture. But remember one thing: PS3HASNOGAEMS!

Amazing, you have 4 eggboxes, 3 of which can't carry out their primary function. Still on my first PS3, I'll let you know if it ever fails. I think I might use my "flaky as hell" Blu-ray drive to watch a Blu-ray movie. After lunch I'll install Linux on it and then I think a spot of free online gaming. After that I'll look at my shiny new HDD in it's shiny draw. Can you even change a HDD in an eggbox?

No, two can carry out their primary function. Infact, three can when I hit a little switch at the back. Swapping between EEPROMS is for the win. I'm still on my first Xbox, and that hasn't broken. Its the one thats downstairs, and it's still going. I bought these ones cheaply as I intended to sell them back on once I fixed them. Why would you want to watch a blu-ray film any way? Is S.W.A.T really that much better in upscaled HD? And I'm enjoying the 500gb Caviar I have in my Modded Live machine, the 120gb HDD I have in the Linux one and the 250 I have in my dad's xbox.

I agree Haze sucks (it outputs at like 576i), but I like the look of Uncharted 2 when they fix the bugs, and if Motorstorm is as fun on the PS3 as it is on the PSP it looks like a fun racer
